The Pandora Directive Considered the best of the Tex Murphy series due to its deep plot and multiple endings, The Pandora Directive was recently named #15 of the Top 20 Adventure Games of All-Time by Adventure Gamers.com. A gumshoe 1930's-style detective caught in the post-World War III 2030's, Tex Murphy is a loveable, almost clumsy, private investigator caught in an investigation way over his head. He's been hired to find Dr. Thomas Malloy, an elderly scientist holding more than his share of government secrets. Gamers take on a first-person role of Tex and are free to investigate a variety of locations and interview numerous suspects and citizens. This isn't a shooter so Tex doesn't carry a weapon. Instead, the player needs to use his/her wits to figure out the myriad of puzzles and secrets that lie within this game. Unfortunately, this series hasn't been continued after Microsoft's acquisition of Access Software. However, there is a strong following of Tex Murphy fans that have petitioned to bring the detective back. A recommended web site is UnofficialTexMurphy.com which provides a great deal of information and downloads. Included, are six radio programs put together last year by the old Tex Murphy crew that continue to tell Tex's story past the last game, Overseer. Also of note, there were two Tex Murphy books published by Aaron Connors. No longer in print, The Pandora Directive and Under A Killing Moon are largely sought by the strong Tex fan base.
